INTRODUCTION
I have been with AMBB since it was founded by Paul Bowyer and worked as the Commercial Manager for many years, and Construction Manager in the later years, before stating my own, Small Works Division within AMBB. The name small works is a little misleading as I am undertaking projects up to Dhs 10 m in value but the management size of the division is certainly small. This means overheads are smaller and we are able to offer competitive rates. Whilst we have the same philosophy as the rest of the AMBB Group to deliver a quality service we have streamlined some of the contractual procedures to reduce costs and simplify the process. Most of our is negotiated with clients who are able to deal with me on a one-to-one basis. We do not generally give Tender/Performance bonds or advance payment guarantees, nor we have retention money held during the contract or defects liability period.
The emphasis is very much on providing a personal touch and as we only have 2 or 3 projects running at a time I am able to undertake the role of Construction Manager to ensure the clients requirement are fully satisfied. It is the simple, hands on and non-contractual approach that has already proved popular with clients who want to reduce the cost and time implication that are typically incurred with construction projects.
